It's so exciting for kids when they finally get a big kid room! Here's the post we did when this was our son, Bennett's room. And about 18 months ago, we moved our son, Sullivan's nursery into this room (photos below). And now we're making it a big kid room again. Are you tired just reading this? Me too! LOL.

Here's a photo of the room when we first moved in... look at that gross carpet!:

Here's a couple 'before' photos of this room as a nursery:

Ok! Now that you've gotten a complete history of this room, we're ready to get rocking! Haha.

Last August, Sullivan figured out how to climb out of his crib so we decided to sell it and get him a single mattress. Since then, we've just had the mattress on the floor because he moves around during the night a bunch and has fallen out of bed a few times. Now, it seemed like he was ready for a big boy bed! We had recently promised we would make our oldest son a loft bed, so we took the DIY bed that we made for Bennett and painted it to put it in Sullivan's room. We had to move around a few things to make Sullivan's room work with his new big kid bed, so we ended up doing a little room refresh on the cheap. Here's all the details!

First we started by using this opportunity to scrape the stippling off the ceiling in Sullivan's room. We have stippling on most of the ceilings in our house, but we're planning to slowly scrape them for a more modern look. But we also wanted to scrape Sullivan's ceiling now so we could hang glow-in-the-dark stars for him.

Next, we planned to move around a bunch of the artwork and the headboard that is in his room so we had to patch the drywall spots that were left behind. And then we painted Sullivan's room and trim the same colour. The wall colour in there Benjamin Moore's 'Green Tint' (2139-60) and I really love it! The trim colour is Sherwin Williams' 'Westhighland' (SW 7566).

I also painted Sullivan's bed a gray colour that we also had on hand from painting our entryway and we love it! The gray matches really well with the artwork and accessories in this room.

We ordered a nightstand for Sullivan's room and it was on sale for a steal of a deal ... $56! It's really quite sturdy and the brown wood colour ties in nicely with the fun hexagon-shaped light that we picked up from Homesense a while back and just got to installing it this week. These two items and the glow-in-the-dark stars are the only things we needed to buy for this room refresh. And then above the nightstand, we used animal artwork that we already had in the room.

We also got new bedding when we first bought this mattress for Sullivan. This duvet cover is reversible, with one side having a monkey. The theme for Bennett & Sullivan's nurseries was safari animal themed and it has definitely been carried into Sullivan's big boy room. The gray, seafoam, teal, and white colours have stayed constant too.

I also spray-painted the kids' easel that we had so it would flow with the colours in this room better.

Sullivan is so proud of his big-kid room and he wants to give everyone that we've facetimed lately a tour. He's so cute.
